Post NYC

Traveling to NYC was a life changing experience for me. It opened my eyes on where to go from here to improve myself and my career.

For my career, visiting PRG was a major career boost. I am looking into hopefully working with them after I graduate from UWM. It showed me that what I want to do can translate into various fields for jobs. Getting a personal backstage tour of Kinky Boots was a blast. Being able to talk to a professional in a field I am looking into was helpful. He told me what it takes to get to Broadway and how to do it and what jobs are more beneficial.
The other backstage tours were useful too, but not as useful because they were not focused into what I am going into.

Before I left to go to NYC, I was not that excited. I have never been to the East Coast and was not too interested in possibly working out there. But after living there for five days, I am in love with the East Coast now. I am looking into work on the East Coast to hopefully outreach and network across the there then venture across the country.

Plan of Action

My plan of action is to first look at the itineray for the trip and see what will best benefit me. From there, I am going to look into what locations around NYC could also benefit me. I am still researching unions out there and my plan about that is not set in stone. But, I am hoping when we go to shops, if there are technical people we run into I have questions to ask them about working in NYC.

Goals

There are unions that do interest me. One is IATSE, International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. It breaks down into location and type of technical theatre work you do. But, my main goal when we go out to NYC is to breathe in the city. Feel if the environment is right for me to potentially work in. Also, I am interested in how the union works out there and how the shops operate.

NYC Entry 1

I have never been to NYC, but I feel like it is one city I must visit at least once.

NYC seems to be this marvelous place. The life there is fast and the different cultures thrive.

While exploring NYC, I hope to be able to get a different outlook on it. I have never been to thrilled about NYC, but, it is a big theatre city. I want to experience the city and see if I am even interested at possibly working out there after I graduate. Also, I hope to be able to network out there and get more connections to benefit me in the future.
